Excessive Electricity Bill: 65-Year-Old Woman Commits Suicide in Punjab

-

GUJRANWALA: In a heartbreaking incident, a 65-year-old woman named Razia Bibi, who was suffering from a hernia, took her own life after being forced to use her surgery savings to pay an unexpectedly high electricity bill of Rs 10,000.

Razia Bibi had diligently saved money for her hernia operation. However, the hefty electricity bill left her with no option but to use her medical savings to cover the cost.

According to her son, Usman, she was extremely distressed by this financial blow. After going out to buy medicine, she became overwhelmed with despair and jumped into a nearby drain.

“My mother had saved money for her operation, but after receiving the electric bill of Rs 10,000, she used her surgery funds to pay it and then committed suicide,” Usman explained.

Despite her daughter’s attempt to rescue her from the drain, Razia Bibi could not be saved. Local authorities are now conducting a search operation to recover her body.

Footage capturing the moments leading up to the tragedy has surfaced, and the Gujranwala Police have initiated an investigation into the case.
