EU Allocates €700,000 in Humanitarian Aid to Pakistan Amid Flood Crisis

-

The European Union (EU) has announced €700,000 in humanitarian assistance for Pakistan following devastating floods and landslides that have claimed lives and severely impacted livelihoods and infrastructure across the country.

The aid is aimed at providing urgent relief to vulnerable communities in some of the most affected regions, including Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab, and Sindh, as stated in an official press release.

Taheeni Thammannagoda, who oversees the EU’s humanitarian initiatives in Pakistan, expressed condolences for the lives lost due to the exceptionally heavy monsoon rains. She emphasized that the funding will support humanitarian partners in delivering critical aid to affected families.

The funds will be distributed through the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), focusing on providing water, sanitation, temporary shelter, and essential relief supplies.

This support adds to the €11 million already allocated by the EU in 2024 for humanitarian aid and disaster preparedness in Pakistan.
