Chinese Premier Li Qiang arrived in Islamabad for a four-day visit, coinciding with the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit.
He was welcomed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif with a 21-gun salute. This visit is the first by a Chinese premier in over a decade.
The leaders will discuss economic ties, including the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), and hold meetings with key officials.
The SCO summit will focus on regional cooperation, with leaders from member states including China, Russia, and India attending. Security has been tightened in Islamabad for the event.
