Under the bright Balochistan sun, communities came together in a celebration of athletic excellence and national pride as Pakistan Day was joyfully marked by a grand sports festival. Organized by the Sports Department of the Government of Balochistan, the festival showcased exciting tournaments in futsal, wushu, and basketball, igniting a spirit of unity and enthusiasm across the region.
The festivities began at the QDA Ground in Satellite Town, Quetta, with a lively futsal tournament. Special guest Mir Liaqat Ali Lehri—a respected member of the Pakistan People’s Party and Parliamentary Secretary—graciously opened the event, inspiring a large crowd that included key members of the Organising Committee, Abdul Baqi and Muhammad Sadiq. The tournament promises to deliver thrilling action until March 22.

At the Pakistan Sports Board Quetta Centre, basketball fans were treated to a series of competitive matches, inaugurated by Sher Muhammad Tareen, General Secretary of the Balochistan Olympic Association. Six teams from Quetta showcased their talents, sparking excitement and camaraderie among players and spectators alike.
The Ayub Sports Complex’s Martial Arts Gymnasium buzzed with energy during the wushu competition, where 35 athletes from Quetta competed across seven weight categories, demonstrating remarkable skill and dedication.
Expressing his heartfelt approval of the festival, Mir Liaqat Ali Lehri commented, “The celebration of Pakistan Day through this sports festival is truly inspiring.” He emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting sports and creating opportunities for local talent, while also praising the impressive turnout of spectators despite challenging conditions. “We aim to encourage our youth to engage in sports, steering them towards a bright and healthy future, and bringing pride to our province and country,” he added, hinting at exciting plans to develop more sports facilities in the region.
