Anchorperson Orya Maqbool Jan was detained by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore on Thursday for allegedly posting about the Mubarak Sani case on social media, according to his lawyer.
Advocate Mian Ali Ashfaq reported that Jan was arrested by the FIA’s cybercrime unit and is being held at their Gulberg office. He is expected to appear before a judicial magistrate today.
Ashfaq criticized the FIA, stating they have no jurisdiction over the case and are withholding details of the first information report (FIR).
Supreme Court Reviews Mubarak Sani Case
The Supreme Court of Pakistan is revisiting the Punjab government’s plea regarding the Mubarak Sani case.
The plea, filed on Saturday by the prosecutor general of Punjab, requests a review of the court’s February 6 decision that affirmed religious freedoms are subject to law, morality, and public order.
The application highlights the need to amend certain parts of the July 24 judgment, citing errors in relation to previous court precedents.
Notably, the application seeks changes to paragraph 49 of the judgment.
On Monday, protests erupted outside the Supreme Court, organized by Aalmi Majlis Tahaffuz-i-Nabuwat, demanding a reversal of the verdict.
Police intervened with baton charges and tear gas to control the crowd, resulting in a case being filed against over 6,000 protesters under the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) and various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC).
