Aafia Siddiqui’s Release Could Pave the Way for Imran Khan’s Freedom
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs, Rana Sanaullah, has sparked controversy by suggesting that the release of PTI founder Imran Khan could be considered if the United States frees Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
In an exclusive interview on a private TV channel, the senior PML-N leader hinted that Pakistan may have discussed a potential swap with the U.S., stating, “If you want your hero back, release our daughter.” Sanaullah clarified that the government is working within its system and is in no rush to make any hasty decisions.
Addressing pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump, he firmly stated, “We won’t act under external pressure. Any interference would be seen as an intrusion into our sovereignty.” He added that Pakistan would continue to press for Aafia Siddiqui’s release, highlighting the issue of her prolonged imprisonment in the U.S.
Sanaullah also questioned the need for a judicial commission in Imran Khan’s case, asserting that criminal investigations should be handled by law enforcement, not Supreme Court judges. He emphasized the need for direct talks between the opposition and the government and expressed his readiness to engage with PTI.
With the political situation evolving rapidly, both domestic and international factors seem poised to shape future developments.
