a resolution lacking a two-thirds majority is of no value: Fawad

-

PTI’s Senior Vice President Fawad Chaudhry has dismissed the National Assembly’s resolution rejecting the Supreme Court’s verdict on elections in Punjab, stating that it holds no significance as a two-thirds majority is required to overturn a decision by the Supreme Court. He also mentioned that PTI is planning to disqualify ministers who signed the declaration to defy the Supreme Court verdict in the April 5 cabinet huddle and have sought the meeting minutes.

Fawad Chaudhry has also accused federal ministers who passed a similar proclamation in the federal cabinet of violating Articles 204, 190, and 2A of the Constitution. He further cautioned Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif that Maryam Nawaz Sharif was “laying a trap for his disqualification.” Fawad Chaudhry has urged the Election Commission of Pakistan to consult the Supreme Court to appoint new caretaker governments after 90 days. He has also expressed disagreement over the apex court’s decision to hold elections in May instead of within the 90-day limit mandated by the Constitution.

The PTI Has Written A Letter To The Cabinet Secretary

The PTI has written a letter to the Cabinet Division Secretary requesting a list of ministers who signed the proclamation to reject the Supreme Court’s order in the April 5 cabinet meeting. The party plans to disqualify the cabinet members, who attended the meeting, under Article 63-A for allegedly violating Article 2A of the Constitution, which concerns the sovereignty of the state. The PTI’s Central Information Secretary Farrukh Habib wrote the letter, citing Article 19-A of the Constitution which grants every citizen the right to access information in matters of public importance. The letter comes a day after the PTI announced its intention to seek the disqualification of cabinet members who revolted against the Supreme Court’s verdict.
