A powerful earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale struck Pakistan today, causing strong tremors across Islamabad, Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The earthquake, with a depth of 10km, was centered near Shadiwala, close to Dera Ghazi Khan.
Residents in key cities and towns such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, and Faisalabad, as well as various districts in Punjab including Gujranwala, Jhang, and Chiniot, felt the intense shaking.
The tremors were also felt in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, affecting Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, and other regions.
Despite the widespread tremors, initial reports indicate that there were no major damages or casualties.
Authorities have been actively checking buildings for any potential damage. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has mobilized machinery and staff to manage aftershocks and is maintaining 24/7 alert through District Emergency Operation Centers and the PDMA’s Provincial Control Room.
