In a significant development, former federal minister Chaudhry Moonis Elahi has been declared a proclaimed offender in connection with a double murder case. The decision was made by Additional Sessions Judge Mian Javed Akram in Gujrat, sparking a wave of discussion across the country.
Elahi, along with several others, is accused of being involved in the murders of two individuals that occurred on June 28, 2023, in Chakriyan. According to the First Information Report (FIR), Elahi’s name emerged after other suspects reportedly implicated him in the crime. The ex-minister faces charges under Section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deals with instigation or abetment of a crime.
One of the co-accused, Muhammad Akhtar, passed away during the trial while in jail. The case was officially registered at Mangowal Police Station on June 29, 2023.
The court’s 19-page verdict laid out the reasoning behind declaring Elahi a proclaimed offender, marking a new chapter in the ongoing legal proceedings. The decision has added fuel to the political and legal controversies surrounding Elahi’s involvement.
