Winter Alert-Cold Wave Expected Across Pakistan From December 7

-

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a severe cold wave, thunderstorms, and snowfall affecting various regions of Pakistan from December 7 to 14.

The department reports that western winds are expected to enter the upper regions of the country starting December 7. This shift in weather patterns is set to bring a significant drop in temperatures. A cold wave is anticipated to grip the country between December 8 and 14, with temperatures in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir expected to drop by 4 to 6 degrees below normal.

As the cold front moves in, the department forecasts thunderstorms and heavy rain in areas like Chitral, Swat, Abbottabad, Mansehra, and the Neelum Valley, with snowfall expected in the mountainous regions. Additional thunderstorms and rain are also likely in Muzaffarabad and Rawalakot, accompanied by snowfall at higher elevations. The period between December 7 and 8 will see thunderstorms and rain in Murree, Galyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and Lahore.

The department also predicts snowfall in the mountains of Murree and Galyat on December 7 and 8, further intensifying the winter conditions.

In light of the expected weather, the Meteorological Department has advised farmers to adjust their schedules to minimize disruptions. Additionally, tourists are urged to avoid unnecessary travel to ensure safety during this period of extreme weather. Stay alert and plan accordingly as winter sets in with a powerful storm.
