Who needs hackers when you have playful primates? In a bizarre turn of events, an adventurous monkey managed to trigger a nationwide blackout in Sri Lanka, leaving millions without power.
The chaos unfolded on Sunday when the monkey sneaked into an electrical grid substation, disrupting the system and causing a massive power failure.
“One monkey has come into contact with our grid transformer, causing an imbalance in the system,” Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody confirmed.
The blackout, which began around 11:30 AM (0600 GMT), lasted over three hours, with engineers scrambling to restore power across the country.
While power was gradually reinstated in some areas, authorities were still assessing the full impact of the outage.
Sri Lanka had previously suffered extensive blackouts during its 2022 economic crisis, but this time, it wasn’t financial woes—just one overly curious monkey wreaking havoc!
