A blank white canvas is set to go up for auction in Germany this week, with its expected price exceeding $1.5 million (Rs. 417 million).
This painting, titled General 52″ x 52″, was created by American artist Robert Ryman in 1970. It will be auctioned at Berlin’s Ketterer Kunst Auction House on December 6 and 7. The artwork is entirely blank, featuring a deep white border painted with enamel and enamel-like colors typically used for metals.
According to the auction house, the painting is in good condition but cannot be displayed before the auction due to its delicate nature.
Robert Ryman, who passed away in 2019 at the age of 88, was known for his experimental works. Initially a jazz pianist, Ryman began painting as a hobby while working as a security guard at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, eventually becoming a prominent artist.
