Bye Bye Uber – Uber App Shuts Down Operations in Pakistan

-

Operations to continue through subsidiary Careem

The Uber app has been ceased to operate in Lahore which was the only city where it had been operated under its name. In the future the operation will be taken over by subsidiary Careem in Punjab’s provincial capital.

In October 2022, Uber ceased operating the Uber app in Karachi, Multan, Faisalabad, Peshawar and Islamabad. The Uber app was only available in Lahore until today’s decision.

The decision is in line with Uber’s global growth strategy: focusing on markets with opportunities for sustainable growth, the spokesperson added.

“We’ve made the decision to cease operating the Uber app in Pakistan,” an Uber spokesperson told Business Recorder in a statement on Tuesday.

‘Our subsidiary brand Careem will continue to operate, with the Careem app offering ride-hailing services across Pakistan and earning opportunities for drivers.’’

As compensation, Uber is offering a discount on Careem instead, which is owned by Uber. Using the code LHR50, Careem users can get a 50% discount on their next 5 rides.
