Renowned singer and philanthropist Shehzad Roy has urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to reconsider the recently imposed 10% sales tax on books in the federal Budget 2024-25.
Roy took to social media to express his concerns, mentioning that he also appealed to the Prime Minister and Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal to restore the 25% tax rebate for teachers.
Both officials reportedly assured Roy that they would review these decisions with a positive outcome in mind. The federal government, under the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), has set ambitious targets to achieve Rs13 trillion in tax revenue for the upcoming fiscal year, aiming to strengthen its case for a new IMF bailout deal.
