Power Companies Under Fire as 30 Lives Lost Due to Deadly Negligence

-

A shocking revelation shows that 30 precious lives were lost in the fiscal year 2023–24 due to the negligence of Pakistan’s power distribution companies.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has held LESCO, FESCO, and GEPCO responsible for these tragic deaths and slapped them with a combined fine of Rs. 57.5 million.

According to NEPRA, the three major distribution companies showed gross negligence and failed to implement essential safety measures, leading to fatal accidents across their regions.

The official decision states:

  • LESCO fined Rs. 30 million
  • GEPCO fined Rs. 17.5 million
  • FESCO fined Rs. 10 million

NEPRA said the companies could have prevented these deaths with timely and effective safety precautions, but the lack of proper measures resulted in repeated fatal incidents.

Investigations revealed:

  • 13 fatalities in the LESCO region
  • 9 in GEPCO
  • 8 in FESCO

All three companies failed to satisfy NEPRA during the show-cause proceedings.

NEPRA has now ordered these companies to implement strong, foolproof safety systems to prevent such deadly incidents in the future.
