Move over, city crowds — the country’s donkeys just pulled a major growth spurt!
In 2023-24, the donkey squad jumped by a whopping 109,000, hitting over 6 million strong. That’s a solid trot up from last year’s 5.9 million, says the census folks.

Not to be outdone, mules added a neat 3,000 to their ranks, now rocking a total of 227,000. Meanwhile, horses quietly galloped up by 1,000, settling at a proud 383,000.
But wait, the real party’s happening in the buffalo corner — these hefty crowd-pleasers surged by over 1.3 million, now grazing at nearly 47.7 million heads. Sheep and goats also joined the boom: sheep got fluffier by 388,000, crossing 33 million, while goats jumped a jaw-dropping 2.3 million to hit over 89 million!
Even camels got in on the action, adding 14,000 to reach a respectable 1.18 million.
All in all, the nation’s livestock party hit a grand total of almost 60 million animals this year. Looks like Pakistan’s farm friends are thriving like never before!
