-

KARACHI: Mayor Murtaza Wahab of Karachi officially inaugurated Nestlé Pakistan’s inaugural clean and safe drinking water facility in the Bin Qasim Town district, which is designed to serve over 10,000 individuals daily.

During the inauguration, Mayor Wahab remarked, “Access to clean and safe drinking water is a fundamental necessity. I am deeply appreciative of Nestlé’s commitment to supporting the people of Karachi. This remarkable initiative will undoubtedly benefit the community.”

Jason Avanceña, Chief Executive Officer of Nestlé Pakistan, spoke at the event, stating, “Our commitment to Creating Shared Value across our value chain for communities is unwavering. The opening of this ninth clean and safe drinking water facility exemplifies our dedication to positively impacting families, communities, and the planet, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.”

Nestlé Pakistan has established and currently operates nine clean and safe drinking water facilities near its manufacturing sites in Sheikhupura, Kabirwala, Khanewal, Islamabad, and Karachi. With the launch of this facility in collaboration with the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation and Port Qasim Authority, approximately 90,000 individuals will gain access to clean and safe drinking water on a daily basis through these facilities.

Pakistan is making significant strides in enhancing access to clean drinking water, particularly in Karachi. This facility will employ ultrafiltration water treatment technology, capable of supplying up to 3,000 liters of clean and safe drinking water per hour. It will feature a multi-stage filtration process, accompanied by monitoring systems that ensure consistent quality, as well as a UV disinfection unit for additional protection. The plant is designed with energy-efficient pumps and incorporates sustainable practices to reduce its environmental impact.

Nestlé’s initiatives under its flagship Caring for Water-Pakistan program focus on three key areas: factories, communities, and agriculture. All Clean and Safe Drinking Water Facilities across the nation positively impact the communities in which they operate, aligning with UN Sustainable Development Goals 6, 13, and 17.
