Pakistan is in a tough spot. For decades, the country has been trying to collect a staggering $304.5 million from five countries that just won’t pay up.
That’s over 86 billion Pakistani rupees!
Here’s the breakdown of who owes what:
- Iraq: A jaw-dropping $231.3 million.
- Sudan: $46.6 million.
- Bangladesh: $21.4 million.
- Sri Lanka: The amount is unspecified but included in the total.
- Guinea-Bissau: $3.6 million.
These are old debts from the 1980s and 90s, tied to export projects. Even after more than 40 years of diplomatic efforts, reminder letters, and official meetings, the money is still gone.
Now, audit officials are urging the government to step up. They say it’s time for top-level political action to finally get Pakistan its money back. With the rupee’s value dropping, every day that passes is a financial loss for the country.
