The Pakistan Airport Authority has dropped a bombshell — air cargo rates across the country have been hiked, with some fees soaring by up to 100 times, effective July 1.
From birds to betel leaves, new rates cover everything. Here’s the breakdown:
- 🦜 Pet birds: Up by 50%
- 🐶 Cats & dogs: Raised from Rs. 200 to Rs. 300/kg
- 🍃 Betel leaves: Doubled to Rs. 70/kg
- ⚠️ Hazardous items: Now Rs. 300/kg
- 📦 General cargo: Increased 25% to Rs. 125/kg
- 🔁 Transshipment cargo: Now Rs. 15/kg
Officials say this is the first rate revision in five years, formally approved by the Executive Committee of the Airport Authority.
The sudden hike has sparked concerns among exporters and pet owners alike, with many calling the move a heavy burden on businesses already struggling with high costs.
