Karachi: In a groundbreaking move for the city’s aviation sector, Karachi’s business community has officially unveiled “Air Karachi,” a new airline set to take flight with robust financial backing from prominent local entrepreneurs.
The airline, which has already been registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP), marks a major step in enhancing the city’s transportation network. Hanif Gohar, former Senior Vice President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI), shared key details about the venture during a press briefing.
He revealed that a formal application has been submitted to the federal government for the airline’s operating license, with expectations for approval in the coming days. In the initial phase, Air Karachi will lease three aircraft to kickstart its operations.
Air Vice Marshal Imran, the Southern Commander, has been appointed as the CEO of the airline. Among the key shareholders backing the project are well-known business figures, including Aqeel Karim Dhedi, Arif Habib, and SM Tanveer. Additional stakeholders include Bashir Jan Mohammad, Khalid Tawab, Zubair Tufail, and Hamza Tabani.
With an initial investment of Rs 5 billion, each shareholder has contributed Rs 50 million towards the venture. The airline aims to revolutionize the local aviation industry and is poised to begin operations soon.
