What is the potential length of time that former President Donald Trump could spend in prison?

-

Former US President Donald Trump has become the first-ever president to face criminal charges and is currently facing 34 class E felonies for falsification of business records in relation to a $130,000 hush money payment made to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Despite the charges, Trump has pleaded not guilty to all counts, and according to a report by Yahoo News cited by Newsweek, he believes he is the victim of a political witch hunt by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, a Democrat, to undermine his 2024 White House campaign. If found guilty of the charges, attorney Lisa Bloom has stated that Trump could face a prison sentence of approximately 136 years.

In a series of tweets, attorney Lisa Bloom stated that Donald Trump could face up to four years in prison for each of the 34 class E felony charges he is facing, which could result in a total prison term of 136 years. Bloom added that Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is a Democrat, would not bring the case without substantial evidence.

Referring to the Manhattan District Attorney’s office that is bringing charges against Trump, it should be noted that they recently convicted the Trump Organization for criminal fraud. Bloom also mentioned Trump’s inconsistent statements regarding the hush money payment, which lawyers refer to as a “consciousness of guilt.” Bloom pointed out that Trump’s lies about the payment were caught on video and that he falsely claimed the payment did not come from campaign funds to cover up his actions since campaign disclosures are publicly filed.

In reference to Michael Cohen’s involvement in the hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, Bloom commented on a recorded call between Cohen and Trump from September 2020, in which they discussed the payment in coded language. She described the language as similar to that used by the Mafia and suggested that this call provided evidence that Trump was aware of the payment. She also mentioned that Cohen had previously served prison time for a campaign violation he carried out on behalf of Trump.

Has Donald Trump been imprisoned?

As of now, Donald Trump is not in prison, and the chances of him serving prison time, even if he is found guilty, are considered low by many experts. Michael Tappin, a United States expert, stated that the court case could last a long time, and Trump has expressed his intention to put up a strong defense. Additionally, Trump is not disqualified from running for the presidential post in 2024. The decision on Trump’s prison time lies with the judge, and Bragg has not recommended a specific prison term.
