Mitchell Starc Bids Farewell to T20Is, Focuses on Tests and ODIs

-

Australia’s left-arm pace spearhead Mitchell Starc has called time on his T20 international career, choosing to put all his energy into the longer formats.

The 35-year-old, who hasn’t featured in a T20I since the 2024 World Cup, confirmed he’ll now represent Australia only in Tests and ODIs—though fans will still see him in domestic leagues like the IPL.

Starc leaves T20Is with an impressive record: 65 matches, 79 wickets, making him Australia’s top fast-bowling wicket-taker in the format. His biggest highlight remains helping Australia lift the 2021 T20 World Cup.

“Test cricket has always been my number one priority,” Starc said. “Every T20I for Australia was special, but winning the World Cup in 2021 was unforgettable.”

Cricket Australia praised his service, noting his ability to swing the new ball and deliver in crunch overs. With Starc stepping aside, the door opens for fresh pacers like Nathan Ellis and Sean Abbott as Australia build towards the 2026 T20 World Cup.

For Starc, the road ahead is clear: the Ashes, India tour, and 2027 ODI World Cup—the formats he still burns for.
