Trump’s Claim About Indo-Pak Ceasefire Angers Modi Government

-

U.S. President Praised Pakistan, Saying it has “Very Strong Leadership.”

U.S. President Donald Trump has once again claimed credit for helping broker peace between Pakistan and India—much to New Delhi’s continued discomfort.

During a chat with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz at the White House, Trump proudly said,

“I got two nuclear countries to agree on a ceasefire. I told them, if you fire bullets, there’ll be no business.”

He also praised Pakistan, saying it has “very strong leadership.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has brought up his alleged role in calming Indo-Pak tensions. In fact, he’s mentioned it around a dozen times—each time leaving the Modi government visibly ruffled, while India’s opposition Congress party gets fresh meme material.

India: “No Thanks, We Did It Ourselves”

India, however, continues to firmly deny Trump had any role in the ceasefire. Just last month, Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri briefed a parliamentary committee, stating that the agreement was entirely bilateral and had nothing to do with the U.S.

“Trump didn’t ask to be involved,” Misri said. “He just showed up on the stage—like he does.”

Still, it’s worth remembering that on May 10, Trump took to his platform, Truth Social, to happily announce that Pakistan and India had reached a ceasefire agreement—once again playing global peacekeeper, at least in his own script.
