“This is the happiest day of my life, I always dreamed of wearing this uniform — today that dream came true”. Usman Aqeel Said

KARACHI: In a moving tribute to courage and patriotism, the Pakistan Army turned a dream into reality for young Usman Aqeel — a Karachi boy battling the rare and life-threatening disease calciphylaxis — by making him an honorary officer for a day.

Welcomed with full honours at Corps Headquarters, Usman’s wish was granted by Karachi Corps Commander Lt Gen Owais Dastgir, who praised the boy’s unmatched bravery. In a moment that left many teary-eyed, Usman’s mother proudly pinned captain’s ranks on his shoulders, symbolising his one-day command.

From firing real Army weapons to receiving operational briefings, Usman lived his dream in camo — not as a patient, but as a patriot.

“This is the happiest day of my life,” Usman said. “I always dreamed of wearing this uniform — today that dream came true.”

With fierce pride, he added, “Our Army’s victory over India speaks for itself. Every child in Pakistan is ready to stand with our jawans.”

This powerful gesture by the Pakistan Army reminds the nation that even in the face of illness, hope, honour, and heroism can prevail.

Calciphylaxis is a rare and deadly disease that causes painful skin wounds due to calcium buildup in small blood vessels, often with fatal consequences.

Earlier this month, the Army dedicated the launch of its Al-Fateh missile — during Operation Bunyan-al-Marsoos — to innocent Pakistani children martyred in an Indian strike.
