Rohit Sharma’s Unwanted Record in Champions Trophy 2025 Final

-

India put up an impressive bowling display against New Zealand in the Champions Trophy 2025 final and got off to a strong start while chasing a 252-run target under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy. However, the skipper also set an unwanted record for his team.

As New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner and Rohit Sharma walked out for the toss in Dubai, the Indian skipper was just moments away from an unfortunate milestone.

India had dominated the tournament, defeating every opponent convincingly, and was poised to continue its strong form against New Zealand in the final. However, Rohit Sharma lost yet another toss, with Santner opting to bat first—marking Rohit’s 12th consecutive toss loss as captain.

Including the Champions Trophy final, India has now lost the toss in 15 consecutive ODIs, with Rohit’s streak of 12 toss losses equaling an unwanted record. The losing streak began in the 2023 World Cup final against Australia and has continued ever since.

Previously, West Indies legend Brian Lara held the record, losing 12 consecutive tosses from October 1998 to May 1999.
