Weather Report-Dry Spell Continues as Pakistan Braces for Rain

-

LAHORE/KARACHI/ISLAMABAD: Punjab, including Lahore, remains gripped by dry and warm weather, with temperatures steadily rising, the Meteorological Department reported on Saturday.

Cloudy conditions are expected in most districts on Sunday and Monday, but rainfall chances remain low. However, a rain-bearing system is likely to enter Pakistan on March 12, bringing showers to several districts, including Lahore, on March 12 and 13. Until then, Lahore will continue experiencing warm temperatures, ranging between 17°C and 27°C.

Karachi is also under the influence of dry northwesterly winds, with temperatures expected to range between 36°C and 38°C. The city recorded a minimum of 19°C with humidity at 49%, adding to the dry conditions.

Meteorologists attribute the ongoing weather pattern to seasonal atmospheric shifts, with no major changes expected soon. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated and avoid sun exposure during peak hours.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted a fresh weather system entering the country on March 9, bringing rain and thunderstorms. This westerly wave is expected to last until March 16, affecting Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

The Met Office warns of potential urban flooding in Islamabad, Lahore, Peshawar, and Quetta, while heavy snowfall may block roads and trigger landslides in upper regions. Experts caution that these post-winter spring rains, linked to Western Disturbance (WD) systems, could be intense, with risks of high winds and hail damage.
