Last night, a massive outage hit Meta’s platforms, leaving millions of users, including many in Pakistan, unable to log into Facebook, Instagram, and Threads.
According to Downdetector.com, which tracks real-time service disruptions, nearly 1,000 users in Pakistan reported problems with Meta services around 11 p.m. WhatsApp also suffered, with over 2,200 complaints flooding in since 10:52 p.m. Instagram, owned by Meta, saw more than 1,200 outage reports in the same window.
In response, frustrated users flooded the rival platform X with complaints, posting error messages like “something went wrong.” Meta acknowledged the issue on Facebook, reassuring users, “We’re working on getting this fixed as soon as we can.”
WhatsApp also took to X to let users know, “We’re aware of some issues accessing WhatsApp. We’re actively working on a solution and starting to see a return to normal for most people. We expect things to be back to normal shortly.”
Earlier this year, a similar glitch caused a prolonged outage, impacting hundreds of thousands of Facebook and Instagram users.
