The Great Debate – Will Babar Azam Remain Part of Pakistani T20I Squad

-

Pakistan’s white-ball head coach, Aqib Javed, has responded to growing questions about Babar Azam’s future in T20Is after his recent poor form.

Babar struggled in the three-match T20I series against Australia, scoring only 47 runs with an average of 15.66 and a strike rate of 142.42. This has led to discussions about whether he should stay in the team.

Former cricketer Basit Ali added to the talk, saying in a local TV program that Babar’s performance in the third T20I against Australia might have been his last under Aqib’s leadership. “As long as Aqib Javed is coach, this could be Babar Azam’s last T20 match,” Basit said, questioning Babar’s ability to perform consistently.

In response to these comments, Aqib defended Babar’s value to the team. “Senior players like Babar and Rizwan are very important. They’ve been key players for Pakistan for a long time,” Aqib said. “Everyone has their own opinion, but our main focus is on improving Pakistan cricket, not blaming any one player.”

Aqib also emphasized that the team’s success is more important than individual opinions. “Babar’s performances in the last few ODIs show his value. As a coach, my job is not about personal favorites but to make Pakistan cricket stronger overall.”

He concluded, “Our focus is on the team. When Pakistan wins, it’s a win for the whole country, not just one player. Our goal is to improve the image and success of Pakistan cricket.”
