Pakistan and Russia Reaffirm Commitment to Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening ties in various sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, and energy, to benefit both countries.

In a meeting at Aiwan-e-Sadr, President Asif Ali Zardari welcomed a Russian Parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Valentina Matvienko.

President Zardari emphasized the historical bonds between Pakistan and Russia, marked by mutual respect and a shared desire to boost cooperation. He called for increased cultural exchanges and Russian investment in Pakistan’s economy.

The meeting highlighted the importance of regional connectivity, trade diversification, and economic collaboration through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the North-South Transport Corridor. President Zardari also sought Russia’s support for Pakistan’s BRICS membership bid.

Speaker Matvienko affirmed Russia’s priority in strengthening ties with Pakistan and expressed confidence in further enhancing cooperation. She also congratulated Pakistan on its recent international achievements, including its candidacy for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

The meeting was attended by Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gillani, Senator Sherry Rehman, and other senior officials.
