Karachi is poised for significant advancements as the Sindh government announces major upgrades to its public transport system and accelerates 162 development schemes.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon unveiled plans to introduce double-decker buses on the city’s roads, with the provincial government already initiating the procurement process.

Memon, who oversees several portfolios, including Transport, made the announcement during a meeting with key officials, where the decision was made to purchase 50 new buses for the People’s Bus Service.

He stressed the importance of modernizing public transport and instructed authorities to expedite the construction of bus stations to address the city’s growing transport needs.

At the same time, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has called on the Planning and Development (P&D) Department to fast-track the approval of 162 development projects valued at Rs75.639 billion.

These initiatives are part of Karachi’s Rs187.3 billion development plan, with Rs14.8 billion allocated for the 2024-25 financial year, aiming for completion by the next fiscal year. Shah emphasized the need to commence work promptly during a meeting at CM House.

Additionally, the Sindh government is preparing to assume control of the Green Line bus service in December 2024. A high-level meeting led by Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon reviewed the project, which aims to strengthen Karachi’s public transport network.

The federal government’s Rs2 billion subsidy for Green Line operations will be reassessed, with plans to add more buses to enhance services post-transfer.These initiatives underscore the Sindh government’s commitment to advancing Karachi’s infrastructure and urban development.
