Choreographer Remo D’Souza and Wife Accused of Major Fraud in Dance Competition
Indian choreographer Remo D’Souza and his wife Lizelle D’Souza are embroiled in a serious legal battle, facing allegations of defrauding dancers of a staggering 110 million rupees in what appears to be a high-stakes dance scandal.
A Maharashtra-based dance group has filed a case against the couple, claiming they were swindled out of 11.96 crore (approximately 12 crore) rupees after winning a popular television dance competition.
The allegations surfaced after a 26-year-old dancer lodged a complaint at the Mira Road police station on October 16, leading to the registration of a case against Remo, Lizelle, and five others under multiple sections of the Indian Penal Code, including forgery and cheating.
According to the FIR, the group participated in the dance competition between 2018 and July 2024, believing they were affiliated with D’Souza. The complaint alleges that after the group performed and won the event, the D’Souzas falsely represented the group as their own and seized the prize money.
The police investigation has also identified other accused individuals, including Om Prakash Shankar Chauhan, Rohit Jadhav, Frame Production Company, Vinod Raut, a police officer, and Ramesh Gupta, with authorities stating that the probe is ongoing.
Remo D’Souza, well-known for his choreography and as a judge on multiple dance reality shows such as Dance India Dance and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
His extensive career in the entertainment industry has made him a household name, but these serious charges could have significant implications for his reputation and career.
