Fast Food Politics – McDonald’s Takes Center Stage in Trump’s Election Campaign

-

In an unusual campaign strategy, Donald Trump is using McDonald’s to draw attention to his bid for the presidency.

Donald Trump is making McDonald’s a focal point in his campaign as he approaches the final days of his third run for the White House.

He plans to visit a Pennsylvania franchise, where he is expected to take on the role of a fry attendant. This move parallels Vice President Kamala Harris’s past job at the fast-food chain, which she emphasizes as part of her middle-class upbringing narrative.

Trump has frequently questioned Harris’s claims about her McDonald’s employment, suggesting she fabricated her work history.

Harris worked at a McDonald’s in Alameda, California, during the summer of 1983 while attending Howard University, and she has shared her experiences in various interviews. Despite Trump’s allegations, Harris’s campaign has not publicly responded to his remarks.

While Trump often targets his opponents’ backgrounds, this tactic raises eyebrows considering his own history of exaggeration. His visit to McDonald’s is viewed as an effort to undermine Harris’s credibility while he continues to showcase his long-standing affinity for the fast-food chain.

Trump has previously claimed to know the McDonald’s menu better than anyone and has a notable history of supporting fast food.

His son-in-law noted that Trump’s fondness for McDonald’s signaled his recovery from Covid-19, while Trump Jr. has criticized the media for not pressing Harris on her McDonald’s job.
