Explosion Near Karachi Airport – 3 Foreign Nationals Dead, Several Injured

-

A powerful explosion near Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport left multiple casualties and sparked an investigation into the cause.

At least three foreign nationals were killed, and 17 others injured in the blast, which Home Minister Zia Ul Hassan Lanjar suspects was triggered by an improvised explosive device (IED).

According to Geo News, the explosion was so intense that its sound was heard across parts of Karachi, including Karimabad, Defence, and Jamshed Road. Thick smoke and flames were seen rising from the site.

Malir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) confirmed the blast occurred near the airport’s traffic signal. Initial reports suggested that an oil tanker exploded, engulfing several vehicles nearby.

Emergency services, including police and firefighters, swiftly arrived at the scene. Rescue officials reported that all injured and deceased were taken to Jinnah Hospital for immediate treatment.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has called for a detailed report from the Malir SSP and stressed the importance of top-quality medical care for the injured. He also ordered that roads leading to and from the airport remain open.

Minister Lanjar, speaking to Geo News, confirmed that an investigation is ongoing, with authorities reviewing CCTV footage. He added that early signs suggest an IED may have caused the explosion.
