In Karachi, the surge in street crime is alarming, with distressing incidents occurring every day.
Recently, a man named Faisal was shot and killed in Sarjani Sector 36 after he refused to surrender his motorbike to armed robbers. Faisal and his brother were targeted just after receiving their salaries. The robbers not only shot Faisal but also stole Rs80,000 from them. Sadly, Faisal later died from his injuries in the hospital.
This incident underscores the rising violence in the city, as the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has recorded over 50,000 street crime incidents from January to August 2024. Among these, 90 individuals have been killed by street criminals, with many others sustaining injuries.
On average, Karachi witnesses around 208 criminal cases reported each day, mainly involving the theft of mobile phones, cars, and motorbikes. This rampant crime has instilled fear among residents, as numerous incidents remain unreported, highlighting the pressing need for improved security measures in the city.
