Iran’s Missile Attack on Israel Sparks Escalating Tensions

-

Tensions rose on Tuesday as Iran fired a series of ballistic missiles at Israel in response to Israeli actions against Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Air raid sirens went off across Israel, and explosions echoed in Jerusalem and the Jordan River valley, forcing residents into shelters.

During live broadcasts, reporters on state television took cover, while Reuters journalists saw missiles being intercepted over Jordan’s airspace.

Israeli media estimated that between 100 and 400 missiles were fired.

AFP journalists reported multiple explosions shaking Jerusalem on Tuesday night, with air raid sirens sounding across the city.

The Israeli military confirmed the attack, stating, “A short while ago, missiles were launched from Iran towards the State of Israel,” with sirens ringing out across the country, including in Jerusalem.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for the missile launches, warning of an even stronger response if Israel strikes back, as reported by Iranian state TV.

They also revealed that hypersonic ‘Fattah’ missiles were used for the first time in this attack.

Meanwhile, U.S. President Joe Biden held a national security meeting to discuss Iran’s missile strike against Israel.
