‘Harry Potter’ Star Dame Maggie Smith Passes Away at 89.

Dame Maggie Smith, renowned for her roles in “Harry Potter” and “Downton Abbey,” has passed away at 89 in a London hospital, as confirmed by her family.

Her sons, Toby Stephens and Chris Larkin, announced,

“It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Dame Maggie Smith. She passed away peacefully, surrounded by friends and family.”

Smith’s career spanned decades, earning her eight BAFTA Awards and two Academy Awards, including her Oscar-winning roles in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie (1970) and “California Suite” (1979). Her portrayal of Professor McGonagall in “Harry Potter” made her a beloved figure in film.

Born in 1934 in Oxford, Smith began acting as a teenager and captivated audiences with her talent and versatility.
