Ranbir Kapoor, who married Alia Bhatt in a private ceremony in 2022, recently shared a story from their wedding on The Great Indian Kapil Show, which premiered on Netflix on March 31.
During the episode, Kapil Sharma asked Ranbir about rumors that he had paid several crores to Alia’s friends during the ‘joota churai’ ceremony, where the bride’s friends demand money in exchange for the groom’s shoes.
Ranbir clarified that the rumors were untrue, explaining, “No, that’s not true.” His mother, Neetu Kapoor, confirmed that they did give some cash, but Ranbir negotiated the amount down from lakhs to just a few thousands.
When Archana Puran Singh commented that the amount seemed too low, Ranbir explained that it was a small, intimate ceremony held at home.
