The police have apprehended the key suspect, Amna, along with three accomplices in connection with the kidnapping of acclaimed playwright Khalilur Rehman Qamar.
The arrests took place in Nankana Sahib.
Amna, who allegedly orchestrated the kidnapping on July 15, and her associates were detained after it was revealed that she had deceived Qamar by posing as a British citizen. She lured him to a location where her accomplices then abducted him.
The suspects stole cash, a mobile phone, and a valuable watch from Qamar before abandoning him at an undisclosed location with threats of violence if he reported the crime.
The investigation has shown that Amna, a repeat offender, used her pretense as a British national to gain Qamar’s trust before executing the robbery. A case has been filed at Sundar police station, and further inquiries are underway to uncover additional details and potential accomplices.
The FIR, lodged on July 21, indicates that Qamar was invited to Amna’s home under the guise of discussing a drama project. Upon arrival, he was ambushed, tortured, and robbed. The kidnappers forced him to transfer Rs267,000 from his ATM card and inflicted several hours of torment before releasing him in a remote area.
Khalilur Rehman Qamar, known for his popular dramas and the film ‘Kaaf Kangana,’ has expressed his distress and is cooperating with authorities to identify the culprits and seek justice.
