Understanding Traffic Plan in Karachi During Ashura Processions

MA Jinnah Road will be closed from Guru Mandir to Tower due to Muharram processions, starting from Nishtar Park and concluding at Kharadar, The News reported on Saturday.

Karachi Traffic Police has issued a detailed traffic diversion plan for Muharram processions scheduled from the 8th to the 10th of Muharram in the financial hub of the country.

Every year, Karachi sees thousands of mourners participating in various Muharram processions, prompting government and law enforcement agencies to implement comprehensive security measures, including the closure of several streets.

For Ashura, falling on July 17, the Sindh government has imposed a 60-day ban on 143 ulema and zakireen from 13 districts as a security measure during Muharram.

The main procession will start from Nishtar Park and culminate at Imambargah Hussainian Iranian in Kharadar.

During the procession, MA Jinnah Road will be closed to traffic from Guru Mandir to Tower. Only vehicles with permits, identifiable by stickers, will be allowed through Highway Leaders Society Light Signal to join the procession.

Vehicles will not be permitted past Guru Mandir and will be redirected to Bahadur Yar Jung Road in Soldier Bazar.

Traffic from Nazimabad will be redirected towards Nishtar Road and Garden via Lasbela Chowk, while vehicles from Liaquatabad will be diverted to Lasbela Chowk via Teen Hatti, then left towards Central Jail (Martin Road).

For those traveling from Hassan Square to PP Chowrangi, routes include Kashmir Road to Society Light Signal (Sharea Quaideen), or Jail Chowrangi Flyover to Teen Hatti, then Nishtar Road (Lasbela Chowk).

In District East, travelers heading from Sharea Faisal to Naumaish Chowrangi can use Kashmir Road at the right side of Society Light Signal (Noorani Kebab).

Additionally, travelers from Central Jail gate (Jamshed Road) to Guru Mandir and MA Jinnah Road can proceed via Guru Mandir to Bahadur Yar Jung Road in Soldier Bazaar.

In District South, those heading from Garden Zoo to MA Jinnah Road can take Ankle Saria to Gul Plaza on the right, or Coast Guards and Holy Family Hospital on the left.

Heavy and commercial traffic from Super Highway to MA Jinnah Road will divert from Liaquatabad No-10 to Nazimabad Chowrangi No-2 via Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.

Vehicles traveling towards the city via National Highway can follow Highway Faisal or Rashid Minhas Road, Stadium Road, Sir Shah Suleman Road, Hassan Square, Liaquatabad No. 10, Nazimabad Chowrangi No. 2, Habib Bank Flyover, State Avenue Road, Shershah to Mauripur.

Participants from Nazimabad, Lasbella, Albella, Garden Jamaat Khana can join via Soldier Bazar No 3 Light Signal to Naumaish, while those from Liaquatabad can use Teen Hati, Jahangir Road, Guru Mandir to Naumaish.

Participants from Gulistan-e-Jauhar and Gulshan-e-Iqbal can join via University Road, Purani Sabzi Mandi, Kashmir Road, Society Light Signal to Naumaish.

Vehicles joining the procession for Sabeel, Niaz, or Tabrak Taqeem can enter via the Tower and Memon Mosque, with no parking allowed on the procession route.
