During the three days of Eid ul Adha, more than 680,000 livestock were sacrificed across Pakistan, with a total value exceeding Rs500 billion.

it was disclosed on Wednesday in a press release issued by Pakistan Tanners Association.

Agha Syedain, a Central Executive Committee member of the association, stated that the sacrificial animals comprised 290,000 cows, 330,000 goats, 385,000 sheep, and 98,000 camels.

He additionally mentioned that 165,000 water buffaloes were sacrificed in accordance with religious obligations.

The total monetary worth of the sacrificed animals surpassed Rs500 billion, with estimates indicating that the hides alone are valued at around Rs85 billion. The association also voiced concerns about a potential 40% loss of hides due to severe heat and insufficient handling caused by climatic changes.

Normally, the leather industry meets 20% of its annual demand for hides during Eid ul Adha. However, this year, there are concerns that the current supply may fall short by more than 20%.
