Government of Pakistan is introducing digitalise registration system to boost exports and ensure quality standards.

ISLAMABAD: Reaffirming the government’s dedication to increasing exports, Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain announced on Sunday that the pesticide registration system will be digitalized to streamline processes.

In a meeting with the Director General of Plant Protection, Dr. Tariq Khan, the minister emphasized the need for an efficient inspection system for rice and mango plants. He stated that timely inspections are essential to ensure the quality of these products.

Agricultural pesticides are crucial for protecting crops from pests and diseases, thereby ensuring food security and economic stability. However, the misuse and over-reliance on pesticides in Pakistan have raised concerns about their adverse effects on human health, the environment, and sustainable agriculture.

The minister assured that while exporters would receive all possible support within legal bounds to enhance exports, there would be no compromise on quality and standards.

“The government is firmly committed to increasing exports,” the minister stated, adding that a comprehensive strategy would be developed to improve the fumigation system and increase the number of fumigation companies.

He highlighted the significant role of the Plant Protection Department (PPD) in the agriculture sector and stressed the need to enhance its performance to meet high-quality benchmarks.
